Principal

Greetings Cedarbrook Families,

My name is Craig Metcalfe and I am the Principal of Cedarbrook Middle School. I am excited for this school year and I look forward to meeting with all of our families and scholars soon.  

I am a proud graduate of the Cheltenham School District.  I attended West Chester University for undergraduate where I earned a B.S. in secondary education mathematics.  I furthered my educational experience and obtained my master’s in educational leadership with a K-12 principal certification and Gwynedd Mercy University.  As a former Cheltenham High School math teacher, graduate of Cheltenham High School, and lifelong resident of the Cheltenham School District, I have had the honor and privilege of giving back to such an amazing community that gave so much to me, supporting my growth as a young man and as a professional. I am extremely lucky and grateful that my wife, Lateefah, and our children Craig and Simone have been able to experience the many things that make the Cheltenham School District among the very best in the commonwealth.

In addition to serving as a math teacher at Cheltenham high School, I have also had the honor of working in urban and suburban communities. I have also had the opportunity to work as a vice principal at Cheltenham High School and Universal Institute Charter School, as well as serve as principal at Universal Vare Charter Middle School, a turnaround school where I led three years of unprecedented academic growth and was designated a peer leader by the School District of Philadelphia’s School Progress Report.

I am pleased to be working with such a talented group of staff and administrators at Cedarbrook Middle School. Our shared objective is to ensure Cedarbrook continues to shine bright and to work in unison every single day so Cedarbrook continues to be the very best middle school it can be.

Here at Cedarbrook, we believe every scholar is “Destined for Greatness.”  We support this theme by ensuring our staff and scholars exhibit high expectations, demonstrate compassion, love and kindness towards each other and feel supported.  

We offer over 20 different sports, clubs and activities for scholars. These range from PIAA sports, afterschool programs, activities, and clubs, as well as academic programs such as coding, the science fair, solar cars, ESports and robotics.  Our programs don’t exist without our scholars’ interests. So please ensure your scholars get involved. If there is something your child has interest in and we do not offer it currently, we encourage your child to come forth and present that new idea, activity, or club and we will do our best to support it.
